How Do You Feel About Geolocation?

SocialMediaToday poses a few interesting questions in light of the recent popularity of applications like FourSquare:

“Is this needed?”

“How will it significantly improve my life?”

“What are the potential consequences of using this?”

Personally I am still not sure the benefits of it outweigh the privacy risks associated with it. Foursquare and geotagging is useful for friends in your area, or people you feel comfortable sharing that information with. Posting it to a public stream on Twitter though, seems a little less wise to me.

I don’t think I would use any of these apps yet because I don’t really see any value or benefit to giving out my location. Quite the contrary, I’ve heard some horror stories about people using geolocation.
