Apple announces the new Multitouch iPod Nano, among others

Just a few hours ago, Apple has announced that the iPod Nano is going to get one major overhauling feature: it’s now multitouch, like its big brothers, the iPod Touch and the iPhones. The new iPod Nano is much like an overgrown iPod Shuffle, which is amazingly small. If the original iPod Nano blew away because of its size, then this will definitely top that. Since it’s multitouc, it does away with the click wheel. So how do you use it?

The tiny touchscreen of the new iPod Nano is 46% smaller and 42% lighter than its predecessor. It does have hard volume buttons and a clip so you can attach it right on your clothes, no more straps. It has FM radio, NIke+ support, and a pedometer among others. Apple says that this one has 24 hours of battery life.

The revamped OS is focused on an efficient control scheme, and you navigate just the way you’d expect: twisting using your two fingers. A home screen can be populate with your most-used items, rearranged by tapping and holding, just like on other iOS devices.
Another major “feature” of the new iPod Nano is that the video camera and video are gone. I guess this is because Apple is now trying to really market the iPod Touch as the true multimedia iPod—but the new Nano still does photos, thankfully. This you can manipulate via the multitouch.

This new version of the iPod Nano is really neat and I’m sure there will be much talk on this one, although I’m sure all the other new stuff will be the talk of the world in the next days.   Apple has a lot of new stuff announced during the Apple Music Event.

The iPod Nano comes in the same four colors as the new Shuffle. It’s available $149 for 8GB; $179 for the 16GB version.
