Work on always trying to grow
In the world of business, you always need to improve and grow as a person and as an enterprise. Business is just so full of competition, and although competition is good for you, it becomes bad if you are outrun and “killed” by the competition.
So how do you improve yourself? Here are some tips:
- Improve your business system
If you’ve already established your system, try to check if there is anything that needs to be improved. Is there any loop-hole in your system? Is there anything that needs to be simplified? Are your productive hours taken full advantage of? Find ways to improve your productivity system. Tune, retune, and fine tune your system to improve your ability to get things done with the least overhead involved.
- Improve your skills
With the pace of the world we live in now, your skills would quickly become outdated. The world is moving really fast. If you don’t constantly upgrade yourself, you may soon find that the world has moved beyond you, leaving you in your obsolete world.
One important thing to remember is you shouldn’t just settle in upgrading your current skills. Open your eyes and yourself for new skills to learn. How about the skill of foresight? Is there a skill that could be in high demand a few years from now? Is there a skill that will surely become increasingly necessary? Don’t just be good at something. Be versatile.
- Have more knowledge
You’re living in the Information Age. Living in this age is a great blessing because there are abundant sources of knowledge available. All you need to have is the desire to learn. That’s why in this age, curiosity is extremely important. With knowledge being so readily available, the willingness to learn and be teachable makes the biggest difference between those who thrive and those who just get by. Live curious.
- Upgrade your business tools
Just look at the difference between the abacus and the simple calculator. This example is a bit extremely simple, but it illustrates the importance of upgrading your tools. If you don’t upgrade your tools, you risk being left behind by those who do. They will produce far more output with better quality compared to yours.
But remember, your goal is getting things done. You might be spending so much time experimenting on new tools. Set aside some time to experiment with new tools, but spend most of your time doing real work using the tools you are already comfortable with. Work that produces better results than what you have now.
- Change how you think
This is perhaps the most difficult one to apply. People tend to always use the same eyes to see the world through. They always see the world the way they are accustomed to. But you need to upgrade your mindset if you are to successfully grow and improve.
I think that the best way to change how you think is to accept the fact that ideas change and that you may have a different mindset. Read books. Be in the company of people that have the mindset that you want to have. Spend more time with them.
- The beauty of growth
Bill Gates captured the idea that I want to share with you. He said that the key to succeed in business is to innovate and make yourself obsolete. If you don’t make yourself obsolete, your competitors will make you obsolete.
For that reason, it’s important to know how to improve yourself. You need to make yourself obsolete. If you don’t, someone else will.
Your thoughts
What about you? Have you been wanting to grow and improve your life or business? What are the things you’ve done and what are the results so far? What would you like to add to the things mentioned?
