Do you depend on Lady Luck?
Has anyone ever called you lucky? It hurts doesn’t it? After you’ve worked your body, mind, and had sweat, tears, and blood just to finish or achieve something, they easily call you lucky. Just like that. Without batting an eyelash. But then again, were you really lucky, or is it all just your part of the equation? Or is it both?
If luck does exist, where does luck really come into the picture, and what role does it have in our success?
Luck is just a tiny factor among many. I believe that even the luckiest persons in the world won’t be able to achieve lifelong happiness if they’re not keen on observing how the other factors work to benefit him. Your attitude, your talent/skills, your willingness to share your good fortune, you’re openness to learning new things and your goals all contribute to make your day better—it’s not just sheer luck.
In my opinion, luck is just opportunity grabbed consciously or unconsciously, nothing more. You can use it or abuse it. Luck has not much power over you that you don’t already supply yourself. Like every opportunity, luck can change your life. Whether that be good or bad, is all up to you.
The importance of luck actually depends on how much effort you put into looking for opportunities. I’m sure you’ve heard somebody win in the lottery that end up more miserably destitute than they were before after 2-5 years winning. There are also stories where someone gets a much-awaited break after doing a ton of groundwork. And still they call that person lucky. If you want to be a writer and you meet an agent of the best publishing company at a cocktail party, most people will say that you’re lucky. But unless you connect with the agent and network through him, you won’t get that lucky break.
You can never be in the right place at the right time, because there’s just no such thing as the right time AND the right place. It’s either—or neither at all. You make the time perfect… you make the place the perfect spot for that opportunity you’ve been praying about.
If you want to be with the successful and most influential people, go to places where these people hang out. Chances are they’ll never come to you. If you want to meet the best people, don’t wait for them to show up. Be the best person yourself! If you do become the best person, I’m sure people will naturally be drawn to you.
Okay, so here’s the thing. I don’t really believe in lady luck. I believe that everything that happens to you is because you decided on it long before you were even aware that you decided on something—or it could also be that you were aware of that decision. Deliberate or not, decision were, are, and will be made by you.
I don’t really feel anything good about the idea of luck because you tend to blame other people but yourself. You avoid owning up to your mistakes. When this happens, even your successes won’t belong to you. You just say “Nah, I just got lucky!” Come on! When you succeed in something, celebrate your greatness. Tell the world that you made it! You deserve it.
So it’s you and your ability to grab opportunities that make or break you.
