Avoiding setbacks

Setbacks are a part of life. We all encounter setbacks in our life. There are always times when something happens that takes away our momentum and discourages us to move on. Some setbacks even push us to the point of giving up.

Now that you’ve realized how normal setbacks are, you should find a way to bounce back when they arrive.

Here’s what to do if you experience a setback:

Never quit.

You’re here to succeed. You’re a winner. Winners never quit, while quitters never win. Don’t become an entrepreneur if you think that you won’t be able to stand against all odds. Entrepreneurs are not like that. They are resilient. They face challenge in the face and create solutions for people to use. Entrepreneurs know that the journey to success isn’t an easy one. But this gives them the drive to move on.

Just tell yourself, that all this will pass, because setbacks usually do. They always do.

Get loads of encouragement

Go to someone positive that you know and discuss your setback with them. Go to close friends who’ll tell you about their honest opinion, be it good or bad, but still encourage you to move forward in the end. These people are indispensible to your success. Just study the lives of the most successful people in history. They always have someone who pushed them to do more; someone who encouraged them to do more and be more.

Decide to whine not

Never ever become a whiner! You can always let your feelings of frustration out. You may feel betrayed, down, and incompetent, but always be ready to bounce back. Once you’ve already acknowledged your feelings, stop and stand up. Don’t let yourself be drowned in your feelings. They don’t own you. They don’t control you.

Your business has not place for negativity. Don’t play the victim. Only losers think they are victims. Own up. Don’t whine about how bad the world is. Not only will you not succeed, you’ll also look stupid.

Record your setbacks

Writing forces you, by its very nature, to organize your thoughts and to create structure where none formerly existed. I highly recommend taking some time to start some kind of a journal or a diary, if you may. Journaling about your setback has value because it can help you make sense of all the emotions that you now have. It helps you identify the feelings you’re having. Once you identify them, you can then acknowledge them, and eventually decide to move forward.

You can also go back anytime and read what you’ve written. You can see the progress and growth you’ve had over the months or years. You can also share your thoughts before to those who are following in your footsteps.

Your thoughts

How about you? How do carry yourself in times of setbacks? What do you usually do? What are your experiences in facing setbacks? What are your suggestions? What would you like to add?
