A Thought on Perspectives

windowYou may have heard about the woman who constantly complained about her neighbor’s laundry on the line. Whenever she looked out the window, she never saw the laundry clean.

One morning, to her surprise, she woke up to see a fresh line of laundry outside.
“They finally learned how to wash properly!” she exclaimed to her husband.
He replied, “And what’s more, I finally cleaned the windows!”

There are times in our lives when we may see things in ways far from their actual reality. If we accept these things as true, we end up having misconceived notions which may hinder us from accomplishing our goals or stop our lives from running in a more positive and successful direction.

This is the case with almost everything. The way we handle our tasks for example; a task may seem extremely daunting and tedious yet it may just be that stepping stone to a smooth and easy job afterwards. Or we might constantly reprimand ourselves over the mistakes we’ve made, yet learning from these mistakes could be the very means of protecting us from future failures.

No matter what the apparent situation, changing the way we look at things provides us with new ways and ideas of approaching and dealing with those things. A positivity of focus will result in looking for solutions instead of finding problems.

A different perspective will actually produce a change of attitude which will go a much longer way than fuming and struggling with a task that you can’t avoid; it will empower you to take the task head on and perhaps train you to take on even bigger challenges in the future.

In a nut shell:

An alternative way of seeing things = change of attitude = empowerment to make the change.

“If you don’t like something change it; if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” –Mary Engelbreit
