Touch screen Macs: An obvious next move for Apple?

With the large success of its iPhone and iPad, rumor has it that Apple filed a patent for touch-screens in its desktop computers .  But whispers in the wind also suggest that although Apple has filed a patent for touch screens for its desktop computers, it doesn’t mean we’re going to see those touch screen Macs soon.

The patent application showcases images of how the screen of a typical Mac laptop may be inclined to allow a comfortable position for users’ fingers. A sensor would track what the user is planning to do.  Having these indications around will really point to Apple planning to make the entire product line to work by touch.  There have also been reports—or rumors—about a touch screen laptop with a much higher resolution.

Apple is definitely on the lookout for the security of the technological breakthroughs that it has offered to the market.  Additionally, Apple already has protection for the design of its music player, and also for the iPod touch, its ultimate multimedia device.

We don’t really know yet if the plans are going to be implemented.  I guess not in the nearest future I guess.  There have been devices that had touch screen capabilities like HP’s desktop PC, but it didn’t really receive much love from the consumers.  And don’t forget, Apple also has a history of sharing off ideas and plans on some really great things, but never really get the projects done.

So I’m still a bit on the fence on this one, but who knows? This might be the next big thing for the Apple camp—to the delight of the consumers, of course.  But until then, let’s just stick to the newest ones; the iPad is a great device that will stay in the tablet war that could go on for years.  And please, give the consumers’ wallets and pockets some recovery time. :)

h2. Your thoughts

What do you think?  Should Apple strike while the iron is hot?  What capabilities do you expect from a multi-touch Mac?  Is there room for a new breakthrough feature to the multi-touch screen?
