Are You Passionate?
How do you know when you have passion for something, whether it’s your business, your blog, a hobby, or anything else?
Here are some of my thoughts:
1. If you get an idea, question or thought about something at 2am, while in bed, you have to come down to act on it. If it’s an idea, you have to get working on it. If it’s a question or problem, you need to find a solution. You won’t be able to sleep until you have done enough.
2. You enjoy doing it. The more you do it, the more it makes you happy. It’s not a chore or a bore.
3. It’s something natural. It is not something that you can instill. You can’t force yourself to be passionate about something.
4. It’s obvious! When you’re passionate about something, people around you know!
5. You talk about it, evangelize, and inspire others to follow suit.
6. You get a sense of satisfaction and self-fulfillment.
7. You love it! Without it, you feel a sense of loss, even if temporary.
8. It’s yours. It’s not something that someone else is doing and you’re just copying them.
9. It excites you.
10. You dream about it. I know a programmer who is very passionate about his job. He told me that he often dreams about programming!

Is it possible to be passionate about passion itself?
I’m passionate about a number of things, design being a top passion of mine. But I’m also passionate about my family and having a good quality of life. I think I have to pull back on my passion sometimes to maintain a balance. But it’s hard when you’re so passionate about something you dream about it while you’re awake!
