Digital Price Points

CNET has an interesting post about the price point of TV shows in Apple’s iTunes. What’s interesting is that they’re looking to drop the price per episode down to $0.99 from $1.99.

It’s interesting to note how this type of content delivery impacts other media. For example, mp3 vs. CD’s, and now digital episodes vs. DVD. What really gets me though, is this: Is it worth paying for an episode at all when you can watch it for free on hulu or a network’s website? This is of course not true for all shows, but it is true for most general prime-time shows. Additionally, what about these shows being DVR’ed, or available for free on many cable providers’ on-demand services? It seems the only thing they can’t compete with is the portability aspect of watching an episode on a mobile device (and without an internet connection).
